HUMIDITY & FLYAWAYS

Frizz is a moisture negotiation.

Hair frizzes when the cuticle lifts and air moves in — in dry rooms, in humid ones, out of the shower, almost always after heat. The fix is rarely more product; it is sealing what is already there in the right order.

  • A single degree of humidity shift can change how your hair dries.
  • Frizz usually starts in the shower, not outside.
  • Over-washing strips the lipid layer that keeps cuticles flat.

THE SCIENCE

Ingredients that actually work

  1. 01

    Glycerin

Pulls moisture from the air into the shaft. Great in damp climates, unhelpful in desert-dry rooms — check where you actually live.

  2. 02

    Hydrolyzed keratin

Fills the micro-gaps in damaged cuticles so they lie flat again. Look for it mid-ingredient list, not last.

  3. 03

    Dimethicone

Unfashionable but effective: a thin film that blocks humidity from inflating the shaft. Clarify weekly so it does not pile up.

  4. 04

    Argan oil

Lightweight, oleic-rich sealing for fine-to-medium hair. Apply to soaking-wet ends, never to dry frizz after styling.

DO THIS TONIGHT

Four moves that matter

  1. 1

Condition in the shower, then rinse with the coldest water you can stand.

  2. 2

Apply leave-in to soaking-wet hair — within three minutes of the towel.

  3. 3

Never brush dry curls; it breaks the cast and re-lifts the cuticle.

  4. 4

Finish styling with a cool-air pass to set the cuticle down.

STRAIGHT ANSWERS

Frizz questions, answered

Why does my hair frizz more in winter?

Cold air holds less water, indoor heating dries it further, and static lifts the cuticle. A heavier sealant and a leave-in stop the static before it starts.

Can frizz be cut out?

Split ends cannot be repaired — they can only be trimmed. Everything above them responds to hydration and sealing; book a cut every 8–10 weeks to stop it travelling up.
