TYPE 2A–2C

Waves fall flat when you treat them like straight hair.

Pattern 2 hair sits between two worlds: it tangles and frizzes like curls, but oils faster and weighs down easier too. The goal is definition without heaviness — almost all flat waves come from too much of the wrong product.

  • Waves lose shape first to brushing, second to weight.
  • Salt sprays define by drying the hair out — use them sparingly.
  • Scrunching out the crunch is the step everyone skips.

FORMULA NOTES

What your texture responds to

  1. 01

    Flaxseed gel

A light, protein-free cast that holds waves without the sticky residue of strong gels.

  2. 02

    Aloe vera

Humectant slip that defines 2A–2B without any greasiness. Watch for over-use in dry climates.

  3. 03

    Hydrolyzed silk

Soft hold plus shine — the difference between defined waves and crunchy ones.

  4. 04

    Jojoba oil

Closest to sebum in structure; two drops scrunched into dry ends stops the halo of flyaways.

WASH DAY

Four moves that matter

  1. 1

Style on soaking-wet hair with gel or mousse, then do not touch it again.

  2. 2

Plop with a microfibre towel for ten minutes before diffuse drying.

  3. 3

Break the gel cast only when fully dry — scrunch upward, not downward.

  4. 4

Brush once in the shower with conditioner in, never on dry hair.

STRAIGHT ANSWERS

Wavy hair, answered

Should wavy hair use mousse or gel?

Mousse for fine waves that collapse, gel for 2B–2C that needs cast and hold. Most people get their best result layering a little of each on wet hair.

Why do my waves disappear overnight?

Friction, mostly. Pineapple the hair at the crown with a silk scrunchie and sleep on a silk case — refresh with water and a pea of gel in the morning.
