TYPE 1A–1C

Straight hair wants weight, not war.

With no curl pattern to interrupt it, sebum travels the shaft easily — which is why straight hair gets oily at the roots and dry at the ends, and why almost every mistake made on it is a volume product applied in the wrong place.

  • Oil reaches the ends faster than on any curl pattern.
  • Fine straight hair loses volume from heavy conditioners, not from washing.
  • Heatless styling holds poorly without the right grit.

FORMULA NOTES

What your texture responds to

  1. 01

    Panthenol

Adds body without residue — the first thing to look for in a volumising leave-in.

  2. 02

    Rice protein

Light structural lift at the root. Keep it away from the mid-lengths if your hair is fine.

  3. 03

    Clay (kaolin)

A pre-wash or dry-shampoo base that absorbs oil at the root without a chalky cast.

  4. 04

    Argan oil

Two drops on the ends only — enough to seal, not enough to flatten.

THE EDIT

Tested products for straight textures

WASH DAY

Four moves that matter

  1. 1

Condition from the ears down, never at the root.

  2. 2

Blow-dry upside down for root lift, then smooth with cool air.

  3. 3

Clarify every third wash; silicones weigh straight hair down fastest.

  4. 4

Sleep on silk — friction creates the flyaways that read as frizz.

STRAIGHT ANSWERS

Straight hair, answered

How often should straight hair be washed?

Fine straight hair often needs daily or every-other-day washing — that is normal, not damage. Coarser straight textures do well at two or three times a week.

Why does my hair go flat by noon?

Almost always product weight or conditioning the roots. Switch to a lightweight leave-in and move conditioner to the ends only.
